How do you start the design process?

I always start with listening to my clients. This is essential for my inspiration and important to align with the client’s vision. The next step is to start with one piece, could be a chair or a carpet that fits to the vision, then I start building up from there until I get the big picture of the design.

What do you learn from your clients?

Every client is different, so the most important thing for me is to get to know them so we can both be aligned with each other. For some clients, reading a floorplan is easy, while for others a Moodboard or 3D is needed. It is especially exciting to me when I see them understand what I'm showing them as then they can visualize what I have on my mind. I also love creating concepts for couples. Often the wishes of the couples differ from each other, therefore it is my job to find a solution for both. This requires a lot of intuition and attention to details. The sense of achievement when both are happy makes me very happy.

Where can you help most?

After many years of experience I have a good idea for proportions and can create furniture layouts that are both practical and beautiful. Studying  Architecture has helped me to understand room proportions and building structures. I also would call myself a walking library for furniture, materials, textiles and all kinds of products you can find at home.

What would be your favorite project?

Every project is my favorite as every project has its own special essence and story! However, I love projects when I have the full responsibility and the trust of my client - creating a concept from A to Z. In particular, the moment when all elements and different phases of the design start to align together and I get to see them turn into a reality.

What helps improve every home?

Creating different zones inside a big area makes a big difference. I love to use carpets to create zones for specific uses, such as a cozy reading corner. Lighting in one color scheme is also important. Personally I like to keep the furniture color scheme more neutral and then work with decoration and art to complement the overall design atmosphere with a pop of colors.
