How do you start your design process?

The process starts with the client discussing and analysing the potential materials and colours to be used within the given space. Having done the initial research, I continue by creating floor plan, mood boards and promising furniture layouts tailored to the client’s needs.

What do you learn from your clients?

My clients are an immense source of inspiration for me and I am always trying to transfer their visions and ideas on paper in the greatest detail possible. Every client is a unique snowflake, which needs an individual style and approach.

What helps improve every home?

In the modern age design and architecture are closely connected with complex technology. While working, I utilise the most advanced tools such as 3ds Max, Lumion or Archicad, which help me translate drawings and sketches into 3D models and renders. My piece of advice: is prioritising functionality alongside aesthetics when designing spaces, ensuring they serve the practical needs of the residents while reflecting their personal style. Every home essential should be versatile, multifunctional furniture pieces that optimize space usage and adapt to changing needs. Something I cannot live with would be a mix of different lighting sources (!), as it creates depth and enhances the overall ambience.

Where do you get inspired and what would be your piece of advice?

Valerie draws inspiration from architectural innovations, modern art and global design trends. If she could advise anyone who is designing their own home, it would be to include a statement piece or focal point that adds personality and visual interest to the space.

Most importantly, she would recommend to prioritize functionality alongside aesthetics when designing spaces, ensuring they serve the practical needs of the residents while reflecting their style.

Another tip would be to integrate a mix of different lighting sources, as it creates depth and enhances overall ambience. Good lighting design, along with plenty of natural light, is essential for both functionality and aesthetics.

What would be your favourite part of the design process?

Helping others translate their needs and wishes in terms of interior design, while delivering a project that is sustainable and fulfils its purpose, is the best way for me to express myself creatively.

Her favourite part of the design process is collaborating with clients to understad their vision and translating it into creative design solutions. She loves using software tools to create detailed renders that illustrate how she envisioned the space, bringing the concept to life for the client.

What helps improve every home?

From lighting, to furniture to technology. Each idea of a client translates into many potential solutions. Considering all requirements, one arrives at multiple combinations of aspects such as lightning, colours and materials, uniquely for each space. Finding the best and most vivid interplay between those aspects results in the greatest improvement of every project.
