How do you start the design process?
When starting the design process, the most important thing for me is to understand the client—who they are, what are their specific needs, their emotions, and the stories they share with me. In the meantime, I try to understand the space itself, its history, and how it needs to function. These elements shape the design process of every project. By understanding the space and the client, I can craft together a space that truly fits its purpose.
What do you learn from your clients?
I learned the importance of understanding the information they are sharing with me. Being a good listener allows me to connect with clients' visions. I also recognize that paying attention to the details is crucial, as those small elements often hold great significance. Each client teaches me something new, enriching my perspective and helping me grow as a designer.
Where can you help most?
I can best assist in bringing a space to life by carefully selecting the right furniture and choosing suitable materials and patterns that enhance the overall design. Furthermore, I can help in creating optimal storage solutions that maximise functionality, and ensure in the meantime that the space remains organised.
What would be your favorite project?
My favourite project would be designing a chalet or a Swiss holiday home surrounded by mountains, where the challenge lies in maximizing functionality while incorporating the stunning landscape as the main feature. I love the idea of adapting spaces to fit the 'mountain' environment, using the rough yet cosy materials found in the area, such as stone and wood, along with warm textiles.
What helps improve every home?
I believe it doesn’t always require big changes to give a space a different atmosphere. You can achieve a lot by simply adding colour to the walls and refreshing the decoration /such as cushions, rugs, vases etc.). Changing the decoration also allows you to adjust the colour palette of the room. Additionally, you shouldn’t underestimate the impact of lighting. Beautiful lamps and quality light sources can transform the ambience, creating a warm and inviting environment. Small adjustments can make a significant difference in how a space feels and functions.
